Byodo-In Temple - December 04, 2020

Our start for the day was having breakfast with friends at Cinnamon's in Kailua. Good seeing old friends.

The rain prevented us from going to The Byodo-In Temple at The Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kaneohe.

We decided to drive down to Kaneohe Bay Drive and saw this sight from He`eia Kea Pier.

What a gorgeous view of Chinaman's Hat and the Koolau Mountain Range.

Palm trees swaying in the breeze.

Even our Hawaiian flag waving in the wind.

Driving back, we were happy the weather was better. We drove up to Byodo-In Temple.

The bridge to Shangri La. You will see what I mean.

This is called the "Kane-Tsuki-Do" or the Bell House

The bell ringer..

This bell is called "Bon-Sho" which is 6 feet 8 inches tall with a bottom diameter of 57 inches. Amazingly, this bell weighs over 7 tons.

An upward view of this huge bell.

This is part of the meditation pavilion called "Tsuri-Dono" or Emperor's fishing pavilion.

I tried to capture these details of its roof.

First thing I saw at the Temple.

Inside is the replica of the magnificent "Amida Budha". It is 18 feet tall and weighs two tons.

This hand position is called "Mudra" - indicates that he is content reaching the highest of the nine paradises.

A guided tour of this private Temple Niche Room

On the grounds, this cat was enjoying its nap.

There are 2 black swans

One more view of this beautiful temple, Byodo-In

Thank goodness another family took this photo of us. We also took their photos.

We were fortunate that the rain stopped long enough to enjoy this place. Then it rained again.
