Birds in Flight (BIF) at Hamakua Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary - January 8, 2021

Drove up to Hamakua Marsh and arrived at 8:00 am. There were a few ducks in the water just cruising around without much action. In the parking lot and along the top of the banks many Alae Ula (common moorhen), ducks and chickens were walking about. The Alae Ula  were unafraid and started walking towards me. I pulled out my phone and took a picture of one up close and  the Alae Ula bit my finger.

This was the mean bugga that bit my finger. It did not hurt, he just startled me.

Walking up to the creek, I was greeted by our usual host sitting on the tree stump.

This stilt seems to be dancing as if he was Fred Astaire.

A coot going into his stealth mode, sneaking up on the ducks and other birds.

Flaps up, coming in for a landing

This baby Alae Ula was trying to keep up with it's mother.

Hey, out of my way!!!

Love is in the air.

Running on water.

I'm glad I made a stop at the marsh this morning. What seemed like an uneventful day turned out to be a pretty productive one for BIF in only an hour. All the photos were shot with a Sigma 150mm-600mm telephoto lens that I bought as my Christmas gift to  myself.
