Lili`uokalani Botanical Garden - February 17, 2021

I had an hour and a half between clients to kill, so I decided to check out Lili`uokalani Botanical Garden. The last time I visited the Botanical Garden must have been about 50 years ago.

Can you tell if this is the top or the bottom photo  of a flower?

All photos were taken with my Samsung +8 cell phone.

Wave Action at Sandy Beach - February 6, 2021

I planed to photograph some decent size waves at Sandy Beach after my hike and whale watching at Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail. The waves were not as large as I had hoped but the following shots are what I photographed.

I realized photographing a wave head on is not as dramatic as a photo taken from the side view, where you'd be able to see the barrel of the wave. But to photograph the barrel of a wave, I would have to be in the water with an underwater housing for my camera, something I'm not even contemplating.

Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail -* February 5, 2021

Thought I'd go whale watching this morning at Makapu`u Point. The morning air was cool with a slight breeze and no signs of rain clouds. A perfect morning for a hike. Many tourists, as well as locals, with 95% of them wearing face masks.

At the first lookout I could see three of the Hawaiian Islands.
On the left is Maui, in the middle Molokai, and on the right Lanai.

To spot the whales, you must be on the lookout for the spouting of its breath.

Here are some examples of the whales breathing air out of its blowhole.
You can even hear the "spout" (air coming out of it's blowhole).

A view to enjoy as you continue up the Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail.

More whales sighted at the second lookout.

A whale's tail is called a fluke.

An interesting rock formation....what do you see?

There must be a cave under this rock ledge.  Two blowholes appear as the result of the waves crashing on the ledge. Or maybe two whales are stuck under the ledge.

A view from the top of the Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail.

Can you tell what's sticking out of the ocean?

A whale waving with its fin.

A fluke and a fin.

A mama whale with her calf.

The back view of Kokohead.

Oh, Oh rain clouds, I must hurry to the car.

Today was such a rewarding day. I was able to hike the Makapu`u Lighthouse Trail and photographed some awesome views of our Island and of the whales on their annual visit to the Island's warm waters.

As we say "LUCKY WE LIVE HAWAII". To my friends on the mainland "E Komo Mai" (welcome).
